Marta Kristin Fridriksdottir
Fyrirgefðu Fífill - Marta Fridriksdottir (Ragnheiður, Gunnar Þórðarson)
Ragnheiður's aria, Fyrirgefðu Fífill from the opera Ragnheiður by G. Þórðarson.
Translation of the aria, "My apologies, dandelion":
My apologies, my dearest dandelion.
I stepped on your pride.
Now, both of us are broken,
never to be whole again.
Dandelion, the most faithful of flowers,
I always find you at my feet.
Your shining crown, more beautiful than the sun, shines through the darkness.
A child I was in a sweet dream
awoken by spring.
On a hopeful morning it woke up a maiden
with a grieving soul.
For two winters, he was my caring teacher
but his absence taught me a more heartbreaking lesson;
To have lost, and never have had,
and to know it will never be.
That is sorrow, more painful than
the passing of the sweetest one.
Your royal crown, dandelion,
answers to the sun's golden light.
But, on a later day
the old gray head is blown away by the wind.
