MARTA KRISTIN FRIDRIKSDOTTIR

Born in the city of Reykjavík, Icelandic soprano Marta Kristin Fridriksdottir is currently living in Vienna, Austria.  

The young soprano has taken part in prestigious classical singing competitions with good success. ​In September 2023 she received the second prize in Havets röst (The Voice of the Sea) voice competition. Marta was awarded multiple main prizes at the 2023 Schloss Rheinsberg competition in Germany and as a result, she sang  the role of Baronessa Eugenia in a production of La Molinara by G. Paisiello, was a soloist at numerous galaconcerts with the Brandenburgisches Staatsorchester Frankfurt under the baton of Azis Sadikovic and took part in the festival's art song (Lied) masterclass at the Kammeroper Schloss Rheinsberg opera festival in the summer of 2023. In the summer of 2022 she recieved the young singer award Musikalischer Förderpreis Jugend at the International DEBUT competition in Weikersheim, Germany and sang in the finals of the International Hans Gabor Belvedere singing competition in Jurmala, Latvia. In 2019 she sang in the final round of the renowned singing competition Neue Stimmen, held in Gütersloh, Germany.  Marta Fridriksdottir was in 2021 the first prize winner of the competition Young Soloists, held by the Icelandic symphony orchestra and performed as a soloist with the orchestra in the spring of 2021. She was also awarded first prize in the Icelandic competition Vox Domini in January 2017, as well as earning the title Voice of the year, a prize awarded by the Icelandic singing teachers' association.

Marta Kristin Fridriksdottir began her classical singing studies in 2008 in Reykjavík at the music school Domus vox. In 2012 she transferred to the Reykjavik academy of singing and vocal arts where she studied with Signy Sæmundsdóttir and graduated with honours in 2017 after successfully finishing ABRSM grade 8 in classical singing.  

In 2017 she moved to Vienna and began her bachelor studies at the University of music and performing arts Vienna (MDW). Marta Kristin Fridriksdottir completed her bachelor's degree in 2021 and started her master's degree in opera singing at the same University with Professor Laura Aikin, Christoph Ulrich Meier and Michael Sturminger.

During the course of her studies, Marta performed a variety of opera roles on stage, those include; Ilia (from Idomeneo by W. A. Mozart), Rodelinda (from Rodelinda by G. F. Händel), Donna Anna (from Don Giovanni by W. A. Mozart), Queen of the night and Pamina (from Die Zauberflöte by W. A. Mozart), Adina (from L'elisir d'amore by G. Donizetti), Sand-and Taumännchen (from Hänsel und Gretel by E. Humperdinck) and Amor (from Orfeo ed Euridice by C. W. Gluck).

Marta has taken parts in various marsterclasses, in 2020 she was invited to participate in a masterclass held by Neue Stimmen and in 2018 she was a member of the Mediterranean Opera Studio and Festival in Sicily.
